My husband woke up Friday morning with a pain in his lower abdomen. He just kept saying it was like a cramp and that it was hurting. He went to the bathroom to have a bowel movement but the pain wasn’t relieved. He laid down in the bed for a little longer and then got up. I instructed him to only drink water and cranberry juice for that day until I could figure out what was wrong and take him to the doctor. I only did this because he doesn’t drink water on a daily basis at all, so I figured the pain was coming from something associated with this. He didn’t go to work the next day, Saturday and went to the immediate care clinic. He described the pain to the doctor, and along with the pain came lethargy…he would be so tired and sleepy. The doctor did a urinalysis and found elevated uribilinogen and prescribed him metronidazole which is an antibiotic. The doctor also said it could possibly be an infection of the gut (which I had never heard of…especially not said like that). But that it was a speculation and couldn’t tell without sending him elsewhere, and nothing was open for that on yesterday. I gave him the antibiotic last night and an Ibuprofen for the pain. He woke up this morning feeling better, not 100%, but much better than the past 2 days. My question is, what other tests do I need to ask his doctor to run? What do the doctors prognosis of elevated urobilinogen and possible gut infection really mean? I tend to worry a lot and it is bothering me since we are relatively young and have 5 kids (I am 29 and my husband is 33). What other things can I do or start doing to help this issue go away and help him maintain kidney/bladder health, liver/pancreas health or gut health? Hope these are the right questions and someone can help me. I have been in deep prayer about it all. Thank you in advance to those of you that can help out.
