La Paz, Bolivia, is one of the highest cities in the world at 12,000 feet(3600 m) above sea level. I grew up in Boston (right on the ocean) and I’ve traveled around before but I don’t think I’ve ever been anywhere on land which was any higher than about 3,000 feet.
There’s no way I can avoid the altitude sickness. I know I’m going to have it. My only concern is that I don’t experience any life-threatening issues. I’m a 31 year-old male in overall excellent health, and I don’t take any medications. If I get headaches and drowsiness and start puking, no biggie.
BTW, wanna know why La Paz is the cheapest city in the world? Because nobody wants to go there because of the altitude.
